Africa & Iowa
For decades, African immigrants have made Iowa their home. Currently, over 30,000 of Iowa’s 3.2 million residents were born in Africa. The African Festival of Arts and Cultures celebrates the vibrant presence of Africans in Iowa and highlights the rich cultural traditions they have brought with them. Africa is a hugely diverse continent with 54 countries, hundreds of languages, and thousands of ethnic groups. Africa Fest performances and booths will showcase some of the cuisines, musical traditions, fashions, and art of the African groups who call Iowa home. The African Festival strives to create connections between African immigrant groups and Iowa neighbors, fostering a more inclusive and culturally-enriched state.
Help us celebrate the rich cultural traditions that Africans bring to Iowa and highlight their vibrant presence in this state!
